David ben Dob Baer Gordon est un journaliste russe né à Podmeretz, près de Wilna, en 1826, et mort à Lyck, en Prusse, le 21 mai 1886. Formé à la yechiva de Wilna, il quitte la Russie pour l'Angleterre vers 1850 et devient en 1856 le rédacteur adjoint du premier hebdomadaire hébraïque, Ha-Maggid, fondé par Eliezer Lipman Silberman, qu'il installe à Lyck en 1858 et dont il prend la direction à la mort de Silberman en 1882. Il se rend à Londres en 1884 comme représentant des sionistes pour le centième anniversaire de Moses Montefiore.
