Manuel Gómez est un médecin né vers 1580 à Anvers, de parents portugais. Formé à la médecine à Évora, il s'établit comme praticien à Amsterdam et publie De Pestilentiæ Curatione (Anvers, 1603 ; 3e éd. 1643), où il compte parmi les premiers à souligner l'inutilité du lait dans le traitement de la phtisie. Poète à ses heures, il fait aussi paraître en 1643 un commentaire en vers sur un aphorisme d'Hippocrate.
