Juriste et homme d'État autrichien né à Pöstelberg, en Bohême, le 19 mars 1831, mort à Vienne le 26 décembre 1886. Formé à Zurich (1849) et à Vienne (1854), il y devient professeur de droit en 1860 avant d'entrer en 1871 au cabinet Auersperg comme ministre de la Justice ; démissionnaire en 1879, il est nommé procureur général à la Cour de cassation de Vienne, poste qu'il occupe jusqu'à sa mort, tout en siégeant à la Chambre des députés de 1871 à 1879. Converti au christianisme, il fut une autorité reconnue du droit autrichien, auteur notamment d'un « Handbuch des Strafprozesses » (1883-1885).
