Glaser, Édouard

Voyageur et arabisant autrichien né le 15 mars 1855 à Deutsch-Rust, en Bohême, formé aux mathématiques et à la géodésie à Prague ainsi qu'à l'arabe en autodidacte. Après un premier voyage à Vienne en 1877 puis en Tunisie, en Libye et en Égypte entre 1880 et 1882, il explore l'Arabie du Sud en 1883, y retourne en 1885-86 et 1887-88, atteignant Marib, l'antique Saba, puis une quatrième fois en 1892, rapportant plus de mille inscriptions himyarites et sabéennes lors de ses premiers voyages, puis environ huit cents de plus lors d'un quatrième périple ; l'université de Greifswald lui décerne un doctorat honorifique en 1890.
