History register · custodian, not owner

Polish rabbi born in Warsaw in 1815, died in that city on September 11, 1878. He directed a yeshiva for forty-two years and became in 1870 rabbi of Warsaw, succeeding R. Bär ben Isaac Meisels, a position which he occupied approximately four years before renouncing it, poorly accepted by the Hasidim. He completed his « Sifte Kohen » at eighteen, then drafted at twenty-three his « Tif'eret Ya'aḳob » on the Shoulhan Aroukh (Warsaw, 1842), much of the edition of which was destroyed by censorship; he publishes again, under the same title, novellae on Guittin (1858) and Houllin (1867).

GESUNDHEIT, JACOB BEN ISAAC

This entry is not yet translated: it is shown in French.
