Torah scholar, chemist and linguist, he undertook to restore the tekhelet (blue thread of the tsitsit): after a visit to the zoological station in Naples, he identified the hilazon with the cuttlefish (Sepia officinalis) and launched a dye works. Prolific author on halakha and Hasidic thought.
