David Gans ben Salomon ben Seligman est un historien et astronome allemand né à Lippstadt, en Westphalie, en 1541, et mort à Prague le 25 août 1613. Formé à la littérature rabbinique à Bonn et Francfort, puis à Cracovie sous Moïse Isserlès, il s'initie aux sciences auprès des frères Löwe ben Betsalel de Prague, où il s'installe vers 1564 et fréquente Kepler et Tycho Brahé, traduisant pour ce dernier les Tables alphonsines de l'hébreu vers l'allemand. Son ouvrage le plus connu, « Ṣemaḥ David » (Prague, 1592), première histoire de ce genre chez les Juifs allemands, fut traduit en latin (Leyde, 1644) et en judéo-allemand (Francfort, 1692).
