Rabbin allemand, né à Mannheim le 14 novembre 1826, mort dans la même ville le 5 septembre 1899. Formé à l'université de Heidelberg, il devient rabbin à Endingen en 1854, à Merchingen en 1857, puis rabbin de district à Bayreuth en 1858. Appelé en 1873 comme rabbin à Mayence, il revient dès le mois de juin de la même année dans sa ville natale, où il officie vingt ans durant à la Klaussynagoge. Spécialiste de lexicographie hébraïque, il publie « Das Peinliche Rechtsverfahren im Jüdischen Alterthum » (Heidelberg, 1870) et le « Glossarium Græco-Hebræum » (Strasbourg, 1890).
