Auteur et pédagogue né en 1865 à Suwałki, en Pologne russe. Formé à Boskovice, en Moravie, il s'installe à Varsovie où il devient l'un des promoteurs du sionisme et fonde une société sioniste avec le rabbin Samuel Mohilever, avant de partir pour l'Amérique en 1892, où il dirige le journal « Ha-'Ibri ». Il est l'auteur de nombreux manuels scolaires et ouvrages, notamment « Allufe Yisrael », des biographies de talmudistes.
