Shohet né à Stavisk, en Pologne, le 22 mars 1822, mort à New York le 17 mai 1876. Devenu shohet de sa ville natale dès l'âge de dix-sept ans, il s'installe à Bernkastel-sur-la-Moselle, en Allemagne, où il devient rabbin et shohet en 1844, avant de rejoindre New York comme shohet de l'un des plus grands abattoirs de la ville, fonction qu'il occupe jusqu'à sa mort. En 1874, il publie une défense de la sheḥitah, « Ṭub Ṭa'am », bientôt traduite en anglais, français et allemand.
