Théologien autrichien né en 1842 à Bur Szentgyörgy, en Hongrie, résidant à Vienne. Formé à l'université de Prague où il suit les cours talmudiques du grand rabbin Rapoport, il devient en 1875 secrétaire de l'Israelitische Allianz de Vienne et effectue en 1881-82 des voyages à Brody pour venir en aide aux juifs russes exilés, avant de devenir secrétaire du Baron de Hirsch Fund et de fonder cinquante écoles en Galicie. Il est l'auteur d'ouvrages tels que « Zur Entstehung des Christenthums » (1894) et « Geschichte der Jüdischen Apologetik » (1903).
