Journaliste né le 18 juin 1829 à Pless, en Silésie prussienne, mort le 20 avril 1872 à Nice. Après des études de droit à Berlin, Breslau et Heidelberg, il devient assesseur au tribunal de Breslau, où il publie en 1857 un ouvrage sur le droit d'auteur, et débute en 1856 sa carrière journalistique à la « Presse » de Vienne. En septembre 1864, il fonde la « Neue Freie Presse », dont il reste rédacteur en chef jusqu'à sa mort.
