Soldat américain, né à Marienthal, dans le Palatinat bavarois, en 1836, émigré aux États-Unis en 1851. Établi dans le Mississippi, il s'engage dans la compagnie A du seizième régiment de volontaires du Mississippi au début de la guerre de Sécession et accompagne le général Stonewall Jackson dans la vallée de Virginie. Il se distingue le 12 mai 1864 à la bataille de Spottsylvania Court House et vit en 1903 à Conway, dans l'Arkansas, où il commande le camp local des vétérans confédérés.
