Médecin allemand né à Bonn le 11 novembre 1795, mort à Elberfeld le 5 mars 1851. Officier dans l'armée du Rhin moyen, il prend une part active aux campagnes de 1812 à 1815, d'abord aux côtés de Napoléon puis contre lui, avant de reprendre ses études à son retour en 1815 et d'obtenir son doctorat en médecine en 1824 ; il s'installe alors à Elberfeld, où il exerce jusqu'à sa mort, et se convertit au christianisme en 1840. Il publie notamment « Die Flechten und Ihre Behandlung » (Elberfeld, 1830 ; 3e éd., Wiesbaden, 1855) et plusieurs ouvrages sur l'émancipation des Juifs, en 1841 et en 1844.
