Prédicateur et enseignant religieux allemand né à Breslau le 15 décembre 1788, mort dans la même ville le 1er juillet 1849, docteur en philosophie de Leipzig en 1817. Après avoir dirigé une école élémentaire juive à Breslau, il est appelé en 1820 comme prédicateur à Königsberg, en Prusse, où il modernise le culte synagogal et introduit en Allemagne la confirmation des filles, avant que des membres orthodoxes n'obtiennent du gouvernement l'interdiction de cette pratique. À l'expiration de son contrat, en 1826, il devient inspecteur en chef de la Königliche Wilhelmsschule de Breslau, fonction qu'il occupe jusqu'en 1847.
