Architecte autrichien né à Prossnitz, en Moravie, le 29 mars 1841, formé à l'École polytechnique puis à l'Académie des beaux-arts de Vienne sous Van der Nüll, Storck, Roesner et Friedrich von Schmidt. Pour sa participation à la construction du nouvel hôtel de ville de Vienne, il reçoit de l'empereur la croix d'or du mérite et la bourgeoisie d'honneur de la ville ; il se consacre ensuite surtout aux synagogues et aux tombeaux, dont ceux de Salomon Sulzer et d'Adolf Jellinek au Zentralfriedhof de Vienne. Membre du conseil de la communauté juive de Vienne depuis 1879, il compte aussi parmi les fondateurs d'une société vouée à la conservation du patrimoine artistique et historique du judaïsme.
