Assyriologue italien né à Correggio en 1847, mort à Florence en 1872. Tout en étudiant le droit à l'université de Bologne, il se consacre aux langues, en particulier à l'assyrien, sur lequel il enseigne à l'Istituto di Studi Superiori de Florence ; il fonde avec Paolo Mantegazza l'Archivio di Etnologia e di Antropologia et compte parmi les fondateurs de la Société orientale italienne. Il est l'auteur du « Brahuî : Saggio di Etnologia Linguistica » (Florence, 1870).
