Roi de Castille et de Léon, fils d'Alphonse IX de Léon et de la pieuse Bérengère, né en 1200, monté sur le trône en 1217 et mort en 1252. Son règne marque un tournant pour les Juifs : malgré l'opposition du clergé, il maintient en fonction le fermier général des impôts juif Don Meïr et sanctionne la « Concordia » conclue par l'archevêque Rodrigue de Tolède avec les Juifs de son diocèse ; conquérant de Cordoue puis de Séville, il laisse les Juifs partager la distribution des terres qui suit cette dernière prise, notamment à Aznalfarache, Aznalcázar et Paterna.
