Born in Osnabrück in 1904, Felix Nussbaum is a German Jewish painter. Refugee and then hidden in Belgium, he was deported and murdered at Auschwitz in 1944. His work, rediscovered after the war, is housed in the Felix-Nussbaum-Haus in Osnabrück. His self-portrait holding his Jewish identity card is one of the most well-known images of Shoah art.
