Né Froim-Zelig Aderca dans une famille juive (le marchand Avram Adercu et Debora Perlmutter), à Puiești. Membre du cercle moderniste Sburătorul, il écrivit romans psychologiques, science-fiction et essais, et publia de nombreux articles contre l'antisémitisme. Persécuté sous les régimes fascistes, il fut bibliothécaire de la communauté juive de Bucarest pendant la Shoah.
