Born Froim-Zelig Aderca in a Jewish family (the merchant Avram Adercu and Debora Perlmutter), in Puiești. Member of the modernist circle Sburătorul, he wrote psychological novels, science fiction and essays, and published numerous articles against antisemitism. Persecuted under fascist regimes, he was librarian of the Jewish community of Bucharest during the Shoah.
