Mathématicien et physicien hongrois né à Puszta Sárosd le 28 mars 1847, formé au gymnase de Györ puis en droit et philosophie à Budapest. Après avoir enseigné à Székesfehérvár, il devient privat-docent de mathématiques à Budapest en 1881, puis professeur de physique à Klausenburg en 1888. L'Académie hongroise des sciences l'élit membre correspondant le 6 mai 1898.
