Ḥayyim Mu'allim Farḥi fut ministre des pachas de Damas et d'Acre ; né à Damas au milieu du XVIIIe siècle, il fut assassiné en 1820 après avoir gouverné une partie de l'empire ottoman pendant plus de quarante ans. Promu par Aḥmad Jazzar, pacha d'Acre puis aussi de Damas, il fut l'âme de la défense d'Acre lors du siège de Napoléon en 1799, puis fut confirmé dans ses fonctions après la mort de Jazzar en 1808 par son successeur Sulaiman Pacha. Il fut finalement assassiné sous le règne d'Abdallah, et son corps jeté à la mer malgré les prières des juifs pour une sépulture décente.
