Joseph Ezekiel, hébraïsant indien, fut l'un des chefs de la communauté des Beni-Israël de Bombay, où il naquit en 1834. Enseignant dès 1856 à la David Sassoon Benevolent Institution, dont il devint le directeur, il fut nommé en 1871 examinateur d'hébreu à l'université de Bombay, puis membre de cette université en 1879 et juge de paix en 1890. Il traduisit en marathi la liturgie juive et publia notamment un « Hebrew Primer » réédité en 1881.
