Slovak economist of Jewish origin, vice-minister of Foreign Trade in Prague. Accused in the antisemitic Slánský trial (1952) and sentenced to life imprisonment; rehabilitated in 1963. Emigrated to the United States after 1968, where he was a professor of economics and published several works, including an account of the Slánský trial.
