Eude (Elia) Lolli

Born in Gorizia on August 23, 1826, son of Samuel Vita Lolli and cousin (and disciple) of Samuel David Luzzatto (Shadal). Trained at the Rabbinical College of Padua, he succeeded in 1865 to Shadal's chair at the Rabbinical College. Elected Chief Rabbi of Padua in 1869, he became lecturer (1877) and then professor (1886) of Hebrew and Chaldean (Aramaic) at the University of Padua; member of the Oriental Academy of Florence.

Rabbin italien ; né à Göritz le 23 août 1826 ; formé au lycée de sa ville natale et au séminaire rabbinique de Padoue, dont il sortit diplômé en 1854. En 1865, il fut nommé professeur au même séminaire, poste qu'il conserva jusqu'à la fermeture définitive de l'institution en 1871. En 1869, il fut élu grand rabbin de Padoue, et en 1877 devint maître de conférences, puis en 1886 professeur d'hébreu et de chaldéen à l'Université de Padoue.

Lolli est l'auteur de : « Dizionario del Linguaggio Ebraico-Rabbinico », Padoue, 1869 ; « Prelezione ad un Corso di Lingua Ebraica e Caldaica », 1877 ; « Corso di Grammatica della Lingua Ebraica », _ib._ 1878. Il contribua également pour une large part à la « La Sacra Bibbia Volgarizzata » de S. D. Luzzatto, Rovigo, 1872.
