Born in Oran (Algeria) in 1942 in a Moroccan Jewish family, arrived in Israel in 1948. Blind and amputated of one hand at age 10 following a grenade explosion. His first collection, Minha Marokait (1976), made him the founding father of Israeli Mizrahi poetry. First Mizrahi poet to win the Israel Prize (Literature and Poetry, 2015).
