Né à Oran (Algérie) en 1942 dans une famille juive marocaine, arrivé en Israël en 1948. Aveugle et amputé d'une main à 10 ans après l'explosion d'une grenade. Son premier recueil, Minha Marokait (1976), fait de lui le père fondateur de la poésie mizrahi israélienne. Premier poète mizrahi lauréat du prix d'Israël (littérature et poésie, 2015).
