Born in Rome into an assimilated Jewish family (his father was physician to the King of Italy). Doctor of philosophy from the University of Rome, he emigrated to Palestine in 1927 and co-founded the kibbutz Givat Brenner. Intellectual and pacifist advocate of Judeo-Arab coexistence, he was parachuted into occupied Italy in 1944, captured and executed at Dachau.
