Né à Rome dans une famille juive assimilée (son père était médecin du roi d'Italie). Docteur en philosophie de l'université de Rome, il émigre en Palestine en 1927 et cofonde le kibboutz Givat Brenner. Intellectuel et pacifiste partisan de la coexistence judéo-arabe, il fut parachuté en Italie occupée en 1944, capturé et exécuté à Dachau.
