French-Lithuanian philosopher, one of the greatest thinkers of the twentieth century. His work (Totality and Infinity, Otherwise than Being) places ethics and responsibility toward the other at the foundation of philosophy. His Talmudic Readings renew the dialogue between Western philosophy and Jewish thought.
