Austrian anatomist born into a Jewish family in Győr (Hungary). Professor of descriptive and topographical anatomy at the University of Vienna from 1888, holder of Vienna's first chair of anatomy. Member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (1898). Several anatomical structures bear his name (Zuckerkandl's body, fascia, tubercle).

Anatomiste autrichien ; né à Raab, Hongrie, en 1849 ; éducation à l'Université de Vienne (M.D. 1874). En 1875, il devint privat-docent d'anatomie à l'Université d'Utrecht, et il fut nommé professeur assistant à l'Université de Vienne en 1879, devenant professeur à Graz en 1882. Depuis 1888, il est professeur d'anatomie descriptive et topographique à l'Université de Vienne.

Zuckerkandl a contribué de nombreuses monographies aux journaux médicaux. Parmi ses œuvres on peut citer les suivantes : « Zur Morphologie des Gesichtschädels » (Stuttgart, 1877) ; « Ueber eine Bisher noch Nicht Beschriebene Drüse der Regio Suprahyoidea » (_ib._ 1879) ; « Ueber das Riechcentrum » (_ib._ 1887) ; et « Normale und Pathologische Anatomie der Nasenhöhle und Ihrer Pneumatischen Anhänge » (Vienne, 1892).
