Médecin et voyageur allemand né à Emrich, près de Clèves, entre 1770 et 1780, diplômé de Francfort-sur-l'Oder en 1800. Il vécut en Angleterre de 1804 à 1816, puis s'établit à Hambourg, avant de retourner en Angleterre en 1838 et de faire fortune au Brésil ; revenu en Europe, il s'installa à Altona. Collaborateur du journal de médecine pratique de Hufeland, il publia le « Continental Medical Repository » (Hambourg, 1817) et, avec Isaac Metz, un catalogue latin-hébreu de la collection Oppenheim, « Collectio Davidis » (Hambourg, 1826), dont il rédigea la partie latine.
