Historien formé à l'Université de Varsovie (doctorat 1927), il fonde et dirige le groupe clandestin « Oyneg Shabbos » qui documente la vie et l'extermination dans le ghetto de Varsovie. Les documents (env. 6 000 pièces) furent enterrés en caches ; deux furent retrouvées après la guerre. Découvert dans sa cache, il est assassiné avec sa famille en mars 1944. Les archives Ringelblum sont inscrites au registre Mémoire du monde de l'UNESCO (1999).
