History register · custodian, not owner
Historian trained at the University of Warsaw (doctorate 1927), he founded and directed the clandestine group « Oyneg Shabbos » that documented life and extermination in the Warsaw ghetto. The documents (approximately 6,000 items) were buried in caches; two were recovered after the war. Discovered in his cache, he was assassinated with his family in March 1944. The Ringelblum archives are inscribed in the UNESCO Memory of the World register (1999).
