History register · custodian, not owner

Born in Roussé on the Danube in a Sephardic Ladino-speaking family (whose ancestors, expelled from Spain in 1492, are believed to have come from Cañete), he grew up between Ladino, Bulgarian, English, and then German, his language of writing. He received the Nobel Prize in Literature 1981 "for an authorship marked by a broad vision, a wealth of ideas and artistic power."
