Talmudiste et cabaliste né probablement à Mayence vers 1176, mort à Worms en 1238, descendant de la famille de Kalonymus et disciple de Juda le Hassid, qui l'initia à la Kabbale. Dans la nuit du 22 Kislev 1196, deux croisés tuèrent sa femme Dulcina et leurs trois enfants pendant qu'il travaillait à son commentaire de la Genèse. Talmudiste, liturgiste et astronome autant que mystique, il développa une kabbale fondée sur la valeur numérique des lettres et laissa des œuvres éthiques empreintes de sérénité malgré l'épreuve, dont le « Ha-Roḳeaḥ », publié pour la première fois à Fano en 1505.
