Publiciste et helléniste français né à Nancy le 22 mars 1804, mort à Paris le 9 avril 1882. Converti au catholicisme dans son adolescence, il devint disciple d'Auguste Comte après avoir quitté le lycée Henri-IV en 1822, avant de se rallier aux doctrines saint-simoniennes. Il se rendit en Grèce en 1832 et publia à son retour, en 1836, « Les Deux Mondes » ; défenseur de l'usage du grec comme langue universelle, il publia « Les Trois Grands Peuples Méditerranéens et le Christianisme » (1864) et fut l'un des fondateurs, en 1881, de l'Association pour l'encouragement des études grecques.
