Philanthrope danois né le 14 novembre 1786 à Copenhague, mort dans cette ville le 25 novembre 1856. Il laissa une fortune d'environ un million sept cent mille couronnes danoises, dont l'essentiel alla à des institutions juives et municipales : la bibliothèque de l'université de Copenhague reçut des fonds pour l'achat d'ouvrages hébraïques et orientaux, tandis que l'Institut polytechnique et l'Académie des beaux-arts de Copenhague, à charge d'accueillir chaque année deux jeunes gens juifs, se partagèrent une somme égale, l'Académie devant en outre financer un prix d'art sur un sujet tiré de l'Ancien Testament.
