Né à Paris, d'un père juif séfarade d'Istanbul devenu citoyen américain (le nom Roditi renverrait à l'île de Rhodes). Poète, essayiste et surtout traducteur trilingue (anglais, français, allemand, espagnol, turc…). Figure du modernisme, il fit connaître Yaşar Kemal en anglais.
