Edoardo Arbib (1840–1906), from the Arbib family that moved from Tripoli to Livorno and then to Italy, fought in Garibaldi's Expedition of the Thousand, was appointed senator of the Kingdom of Italy, directed the Gazzetta del Popolo of Florence and founded the daily La Libertà; he was also a historian and author of fiction.
