Austro-American psychoanalyst born into a Jewish family from Kolomyia. He fled Nazi Austria in 1937-38 and settled in New York. A prolific theorist, he published approximately 25 books and 273 articles on child development, psychic masochism, pathological gambling and self-sabotaging behaviors.
