Rabbin polonais né à Poznań en 1555, mort à Ostrog le 30 novembre 1631, gendre du rabbin Moïse Ashkenazi. Il dirigea une yeshiva fondée pour lui en 1585, devint rabbin de Chelm en 1610 puis rabbin et chef de la yeshiva de Lublin en 1614, avant de terminer sa vie à la tête de celle d'Ostrog, en Volhynie. Novateur dans l'étude du Talmud, concentré sur l'explication des Tosafot, il publia ses premiers « ḥiddushim » en 1600, puis le reste en 1611, et un ouvrage sur la Haggada talmudique en 1627, s'opposant aux rabbins qui l'expliquaient par la Kabbale.
