Juriste et écrivain allemand, né à Berlin le 26 janvier 1812, mort à Arnsdorf, dans les Riesengebirge, le 7 juillet 1884. Formé aux universités de Berlin et de Bonn, il devint privat-docent de droit naturel et pénal à l'université de Breslau en 1849, puis professeur associé en 1854, et publia notamment « Die Gestirne und die Weltgeschichte » (1846) ainsi que des biographies de Walter Scott et de Lord Byron ; il se convertit au christianisme.
