Négociant américain et acteur de la vie communautaire, né à Dessau, en Allemagne, en 1813, mort à Waukesha, dans le Wisconsin, en 1888. Installé à Baltimore puis, à partir de 1840, à Galveston, où il fit carrière jusqu'en 1861 avant de se retirer des affaires, il présida de 1866 à 1880 l'Union Marine and Fire Insurance Company de Galveston et accueillit chez lui, en 1856, les premiers offices religieux juifs de la ville. Son testament dota l'entretien de deux cimetières hébraïques et fit des legs à la congrégation B'nai Israel et à l'orphelinat protestant de Galveston.
