Poète, grammairien et masorète russe né à Dubno, en Volhynie, en octobre 1738 et mort à Amsterdam le 26 juin 1813, Salomon ben Joël Dubno se perfectionne en Galicie sous Rabbi Salomon de Chelm, qui le charge de réviser son ouvrage sur les accents hébraïques, le « Sha'are Ne'imah » (Francfort-sur-le-Main, 1766) ; établi à Amsterdam de 1767 à 1772 puis à Berlin, il devient le précepteur du fils de Moses Mendelssohn, rédige une partie du commentaire biblique de la traduction de Mendelssohn (Amsterdam, 1778), et publie à Vilna le « Birkat Yosef » (Dyhernfurth, 1783). Revenu finir sa vie à Amsterdam, oublié, il en publie le catalogue de bibliothèque, la « Reshimah » (1814).
