Érudit talmudique et prédicateur de Stanisławów (originaire d'Ostrog, selon Ghirondi), mort à Safed au début du XIXe siècle, Israël Naḥman Drohobiczer, élève d'Israël Ba'al Shem Tov, est rabbin et chef de yeshiva dans plusieurs villes d'Allemagne avant d'entreprendre un long voyage pour faire imprimer ses ouvrages, séjournant plusieurs années à Livourne puis s'établissant en Palestine, où il meurt. Il laisse notamment le « Ḥemdat Yisrael », commentaire de l'Ecclésiaste et de deux traités d'Élie ha-Lévi (1820), ainsi que le « Peḳuddat ha-Melek », nouvelles sur Maïmonide et complaintes funèbres, en deux volumes.
