Born Dov Berl Stock in Brody, he hebraicized his name to Sadan. In 1952 he became director of Yiddish studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (professor in 1963, until 1970), one of Israel's most popular lecturers. Essayist, historian of literature, linguist, folklorist and translator from Yiddish to Hebrew; member of the Knesset (Alignment) 1965-1968.
