Philosophe juif ayant vécu entre 400 et 480, originaire de Laodicée ou de Larissa, en Syrie, Domninus étudie sous Syrianus, à qui il succède peut-être comme maître de l'école néoplatonicienne d'Athènes, contemporain du philosophe Proclus. Selon Souda, quand une hémoptysie le frappa à Athènes, il n'hésita pas à manger du porc, contrairement à son compagnon païen Plutarque, également malade, qui s'y refusa — ce qui disqualifie Domninus comme véritable philosophe aux yeux de Souda, bien qu'il le crédite d'un grand talent de mathématicien. Disciple de Platon attaqué par Proclus, il pratique la théurgie et meurt à un âge avancé, probablement à Athènes.
