Diplomate allemand né à Hanovre le 24 juillet 1807 et mort dans cette ville le 17 mars 1856, Johann Hermann Detmold s'établit avocat à Hanovre en 1830, est élu en 1838 à la Diète hanovrienne comme conservateur, puis, en 1848, au Parlement de Francfort, où il devient secrétaire de la Justice puis de l'Intérieur du gouvernement allemand éphémère ; envoyé de nouveau à Francfort comme représentant du roi de Hanovre jusqu'en 1851, il consacre ses dernières années à Hanovre et aux arts. Il publie « Anleitung zur Kunstkennerschaft » (Hanovre, 1833) et « Thaten und Meinungen des Herrn Piepmeyer » (Francfort, 1849), pamphlet satirique sur la politique du Parlement de Francfort.
