L'un des premiers membres de la communauté portugaise de Hambourg, Albertus Denis signe le 31 mai 1611 l'accord garantissant à la communauté son cimetière d'Altona et est admis dans la ville en 1612. Banquier du comte Ernest de Schauenburg, il entre en conflit avec les autorités de Hambourg, qui l'accusent d'acheter des reichsthalers pour les refondre à Altona, et échappe à l'emprisonnement sous la protection du comte ; Christian IV de Danemark lui confie en 1619 la monnaie royale de Glückstadt, et il intercède encore en 1637 pour le renouvellement des privilèges du cimetière.
