Davis, Miriam Isabel

English painter born in London, Miriam Isabel Davis undertook, after a visit to the galleries of Venice, Florence, and Rome, systematic artistic training at the Bloomsbury School of Art; she exhibited from 1882 at the Society of Lady Artists, hung "New Music" in 1887 at the Royal Academy, participated in the Paris Salon in 1889, and then sent works to major galleries — "White and Gold" (1890), "Pure Emblems of Pleasure" (1891), "Simplicity" (1892). From 1895 onwards, she devoted herself to portraiture and exhibited at the Society of Women Painters, of which she was one of the founders.

Peintre anglaise ; née à Londres, où, après avoir fait le tour des galeries de Venise, Florence et Rome, elle entreprit un cours systématique d'études artistiques à la Bloomsbury School of Art. Sa carrière artistique commença en 1882, année où elle exposa à la Society of Lady Artists. En 1887, un tableau d'elle intitulé « New Music » fut accroché à la Royal Academy ; en 1889 elle contribua au Salon de Paris ; et depuis lors elle a exposé dans chaque galerie d'importance. Parmi ses œuvres figurent : « Winter Harmonies », 1887 ; « A Shady Seat », 1888 ; « The Last of the Season », 1889 ; « White and Gold », 1890 (exposé à la New Gallery) ; « Pure Emblems of Pleasure », 1891 (Royal Academy) ; « Simplicité », 1892 (Salon de Paris). À partir de 1895 Miss Davis s'est occupée de peinture de portrait, exposant souvent à la Society of Women Painters, dont elle fut l'une des fondatrices.
