Philanthrope ; né à Londres en 1811 ; décédé le 6 janvier 1870. Commençant sa vie comme marchand en gros, il établit rapidement son propre commerce ; son entreprise devint par la suite l'une des plus importantes maisons d'Angleterre dans l'importation de marchandises étrangères pour le commerce de Birmingham et Sheffield.

Davis était un infatigable artisan du progrès de la communauté, et s'associa de bonne heure à la Jews' Free School, dont il fut trésorier pendant vingt-cinq ans, et à laquelle il versa de somptueuses donations. Il assuma les frais de l'équipement éducatif du personnel enseignant, et à sa mort légua à l'institution la somme de £30,000 ($150,000). Il fut aussi un généreux soutien du Jews' College.
