Mathématicien néerlandais né à Amsterdam le 23 septembre 1900 dans une famille juive (parents Abraham van Dantzig et Bertha de Kadt, tous deux juifs). Connu en topologie pour la construction du solénoïde ; professeur à Delft (1938) puis à Amsterdam (1946). Après-guerre il se consacra aux probabilités et fut sollicité par le comité Delta après l'inondation de 1953. Membre de l'Académie royale néerlandaise (1949).
